The Better Energy Warmer Homes Scheme is of significant importance to help with the increasing costs of energy in the cold winter months in Ireland. Our house must be up to scratch. The scheme is only as good as its administration and that's why I have brought forward this commencement matter today. I recently received the following information from the SEAI. They currently have 7,280 applicants awaiting works through this scheme. The average time from application date to survey completion is 14 months. The average time from application date to works completed is 26 months. Works were suspended this year due to Covid restrictions but that figure does not relate to the backlog from Covid alone. The 26 months means 2 winters in sub energy efficient homes. Funding has increased this year and capacity has been expanded through SEAI but how will this funding lead to a reduction in waiting times for the families on this waiting list?
