The disposal of Defence Forces land in Gormanston & Stamullen Co. Meath

Updated: Mar 21, 2022

So my question to the Minister today is what future plans does he have for the land around and surrounding Gormanston Camp? And would he consider the disposal of a portion of this land in the region of eight to nine acres to the local community in order that they may develop for community facilities?

The lands I refer to are filed under flip numbers MH 11409N and MH 6108 N are and have been unzoned since 2011.

This government has made huge strides in the last two years in establishing bodies of frameworks such as the Land Development Agency, so that public use public land may be used in the most efficient manner in serving the communities where they exist, while in the midst of a housing crisis, this often takes the form of housing. If this part of the land was to fall under the remit of the local authority, it could be used to develop state-of-the-art football pitches for the local club of 360 members.

These children have been using the facilities and pitches at the Franciscan College Gormanston, but for reasons outside of their control, will no longer be able to do so from April, so effectively they have nowhere to go. This land could provide them with pitches of their own, enabling them to train and play freely and reach their full potential.

So I asked the Minister would you please consider allowing it to be used and developed for the projects in mind?
