I got the opportunity to address Minister Simon Harris today to push forward on the provision of a scheme for local authority funded apprenticeships. This was an idea I put to the Minister 6 month ago. There are 31 local authorities and if each could create 100 jobs each over the next 5 years that would means the creation of 3100 new jobs. People need more than politician giving trite pep talks right now. People need training and employment opportunities and hope for their future. The government needs to invest in real people by offering funded apprenticeship schemes. It's a tangible way of achieving these objectives at a time when employment is so low and there's a shortfall in skilled people to complete certain works. I also raised the issue for those who have not been able to receive any PUP payment in apprenticeships under the age of 18.
